For Chinese users, "how to turn RMB into USDT" is the first threshold to entering the crypto world. This article explains the complete P2P (peer-to-peer) crypto buying process clearly.
⚠️ Risk Warning
P2P trading involves bank account risks, card freezing, etc. This article is for educational reference only and does not constitute financial advice. Please understand local laws and regulations before operating.
What is P2P?
P2P (Peer-to-Peer) means "person-to-person" trading — you use the exchange's escrow platform to directly buy USDT (or USDC) from other users with fiat currency. Funds and coins don't pass through the exchange's "fund pool" — the platform acts as the escrow agent.
Recommended Platform Comparison
| Platform | Supported Payments | Fees | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Binance P2P | Alipay, WeChat Pay, Bank Card | 0% (merchants add spread) | Best liquidity, most merchants |
| OKX P2P | Alipay, WeChat Pay, Bank Card | 0% (merchants add spread) | Good Chinese UI, strict KYC |
| Gate.io P2P | Bank Card, WeChat Pay | 0% (merchants add spread) | More coins, average liquidity |
Binance P2P Coin Buying: Complete Steps
- Register and complete KYC: Register on Binance with phone/email, upload ID for identity verification.
- Enter P2P page: Click "Buy Crypto" → "P2P Trading" on App homepage.
- Filter merchants: Select USDT, set filter to "Alipay/WeChat Pay", merchant verification level to "Verified Merchant", completed orders > 500.
- Place order: Enter purchase amount, click "Buy USDT". System will escrow the funds on the platform.
- Make payment: Transfer according to the payment info provided by the merchant, within 15 minutes. Do NOT write words like "Bitcoin" "USDT" in the remarks, only write pure number remarks (if merchant requires).
- Confirm receipt: After the merchant confirms receipt of funds, the platform will release USDT to your spot wallet.
7 Iron Rules to Reduce Card Freezing Risk
- Only trade with platform-verified merchants, don't transfer privately.
- Single transaction amount shouldn't be too large, recommend < ¥10,000.
- Use a dedicated card: prepare a seldom-used bank card specifically for P2P receipts, transfer funds to main card through a "transit card".
- After receiving funds, don't withdraw immediately, let it sit on the exchange for at least 24 hours.
- Avoid large transactions during nighttime (22:00-6:00), when bank risk control systems are most sensitive.
- If a merchant asks for "split transfers", refuse — this is usually money laundering behavior.
- Keep all transaction screenshots and chat records as appeal materials in case your bank card gets frozen.
What After Buying USDT?
After getting USDT, you have several choices:
- Hold USDT: Wait for the right timing to buy BTC/ETH.
- Withdraw to hardware wallet: If amount is large, withdraw from exchange to your own hardware wallet (test with small amount first).
- Participate in DeFi: Transfer USDT/ETH to wallets like MetaMask, participate in decentralized trading or staking (high risk).

P2P is currently the main fiat on-ramp for Chinese users, but also the highest-risk segment. Choose large platforms, verified merchants, dedicated cards, and small fragmented transactions — if you can follow these four rules, risk can be controlled within an acceptable range.
